Bed Bath and Beyond acts as an assembly of works dealing with the exhibition and contemplation of art beyond the sacred white cube into the profane, a living space. Featuring work by Chloe Harthan, Ayla Hayes, Alyvia Luong, and Emma Xhaxho, Bed Bath and Beyond aims to argue the case behind the legitimacy of art once it exits traditional modes of exhibition, as it enters and integrates itself into the living space.
The exhibition takes its cue from recent discourse around the apartment gallery as a space that does not need to position itself as an opposing force to traditional modes of display. The domestic context that the exhibition situates itself upon is less a rejection of the “white cube” than a taxonomy, establishing its own conditions of ambiguity for encountering art. The domestic space reframes the terms of contemplation entirely, and does not register art as mere decoration.

Alyvia Luong is an interdisciplinary artist based in Chicago, IL. As an overarching theme, she utilizes the arts as a form of dissection and protest— abstracting from her own racialized experiences growing up in Midwest America and her familial background of Vietnamese refugees.
Ayla Ellen Hayes (b.2002, Wichita Falls, Texas) is an artist living and working in Chicago, IL. Ayla graduated from SAIC in 2025. Her work has been shown in places such as Name Gallery, Vintage Quest, Povos, Empty Bottle, and SAIC Galleries.
Chloe Harthan is an interdisciplinary painter based in Chicago, IL. Through meticulous body and skin studies, she explores how hyperspecific points can transform into the universal, and discusses taboo, humor, and intimacy. Harthan holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is co-director of Point Blank Gallery in Chicago.
Emma Xhaxho is an interdisciplinary, first-generation Albanian American, Chicago-born artist who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is pursuing her Graduate Studies at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Art at Washington University.
